Java Indonesia earthquake

As part of “Ring of Fire”, of course, there was often earthquake in Java. Earthquake in Java, mostly are caused by tectonic plate activity. Most of the quake was centered in the southern part of Java, at Indian Ocean. Almost all of this quake was not large, only a few earthquakes that caused many damage. One of the big earthquake that happened was on May 27th, 2006 in Yogyakarta. Below are some Java Indonesia earthquake from 1836 until 2011:

March 22nd, 1836
The quake occurred at Mojokerto, East Java. It is not known how the power of the quake, but the scale of earthquake intensity reached MMI VII-VIII. This earthquake damage some buildings.

November 11th, 1862
The quake occurred at Madiun, East Java. The intensity reached MMI VII. This earthquake cracked some buildings.

August 15th, 1896
The quake occurred at Wlingi, East Java. Its seismic intensity reached MMI VII. Earthquake spread until Brangah. Damage some buildings and houses.

August 20th, 1902
The quake occurred in Tulungagung East Java, with MMI VII seismic intensity. The earthquake damages some buildings.

August 11th, 1939
The earthquake occurred in East Java with MMI VII intensity. The earthquake spread until Rembang, Central Java.

June 19th, 1950
The earthquake occurred in East Java with the scale of earthquake intensity reached VI MMI. Some buildings cracked. The earthquake also spread to Borneo and West Java.

November 20th, 1958
The quake occurred in Malang, East Java, with seismic intensity scale reached MMI VII-VIII. The earthquake cracks buildings, land, and 8 people deaths.

February 19th, 1967
The quake occurred in Malang again with seismic intensity scale of VII – IX MMI. The worst damage occurred in Dampit, 1539 houses damaged, 14 people deaths, 72 wounded. In Gondanglegi 9 people deaths and 49 people injured, 119 buildings collapsed, 402 fractured, 5 mosques damaged. In Trenggalek 33 bamboo houses cracked. The earthquake spread until Banyumas and Cilacap in Central Java.

October 4th, 1972
The quake occurred in Blitar-Trenggalek, East java, with intensity of 6 on the Richter scale or about MMI V-VI. As a result, there is damage to some buildings in Gandusari & Trenggalek. 250 people died, 127 people missing, 423 injured, 1,500 homes collapsed, 278 damaged and lost boats. This earthquake also caused tens meters tsunami wave that reaches 500 meters from the beach.

June 3rd, 1994
The earthquake occurred in Banyuwangi, East Java, with 7 Richter intensity or about MMI VIII. The earthquake spread at Rajegwesi, Gerangan, Lampon, Pancer, Sempu Island, Grajagan, Red Island (Pulau Merah), Hijau Bay, Sukamade, Watu Ulo, Gulf Sipelori and the Gulf Tambakan. This earthquake also caused tsunami  reached the coast of Banyuwangi, Jember, Malang, Blitar, Tulung Agung, Terri & Pacitan.

July 20th, 2003
The earthquake occurred at Pacitan with 5.9 Richter strength. Resulting in damage to several buildings, 4 houses in the village of Pucang Sewu, 1 house in the village Sambong, 1 house in the village Ponggok, District Pacitan; 1 house in the village Wonocoyo, Trenggalek; few house at Madiun and a commercial market in Yogyakarta. The earthquake also spread in Pacitan, Trenggalek, Madiun, Surakarta (Solo), Yogyakarta to Surabaya.

May 27th, 2006
Java Indonesia earthquake 2006 occurred at 05:54, The epicenter at Indian Ocean about 25 km south-southwest of Yogyakarta, with magnitude of 6.3 Richter (based United States Geological Survey). Two aftershocks at 4.6 and 4.8 Richter also occurred few hours later. The earthquake caused 5,782 deaths, 36,299 were injured, 135,000 houses collapse, and an around 1.5 million left homeless. Yogyakarta earthquake, 2006Most of them in Bantul, while about 1,600 others died in Klaten. This is the one of the biggest earthquake in Java for centuries.

July 17th, 2006
The Java earthquake occurred on at 03:24 pm, was a magnitude 7.7 at Richter scale. The hypocentre at a depth of 48.6 km below the seabed, about 225 km north-east of Christmas Island or 240 km south-south west of Tasikmalaya, West Java. The Indonesian Ministry of Health reports that approximately 450 injured and 140 are missing. A Pangalengan resident said that there was a tsunami wave coming towards the coast with speed of 40 kilometers per hour.  He also said that the tsunami was at least 5 m high. Other residents said dozens of local fishermen fear soaked because the big waves.

September 2nd, 2009
Tasikmalaya earthquake epicentrum, 2009This Java Indonesia earthquake 2009 also named “Tasikmalaya Earthquake” because occurred at Tasikmalaya, West Java. Tasikmalaya tectonic earthquake occurred on September 2, 2009 at 02:55 pm with the epicenter at 142 km southwest of Tasikmalaya, with magnitudes 7.3 Richter.¬† The earthquake occurred as a result of tectonic plate collision of Indo-Australia against the Eurasian plate. The earthquake also spread to the Bali island. Dozens people death and hundreds more are injured, damaged about ten thousands of houses and office buildings in Indramayu, Cianjur, Ciamis, and Kuningan West Java. In Cianjur the quake causing landslides that buried 11 houses. A magnitude 4.9 Richter aftershock also occurred at 04:28 pm.

November 9th, 2010
The earthquake occurred at 7:38 pm. The earthquake epicenter at depth 14 km, located 139 km southeast of Sukabumi, West Java. No damage reported during this earthquake.

November 9th, 2010
The earthquake occurred at 02:03 pm, with 5.6 Richter magnitude at a depth of 10 km, located 125 km Southwest of Bantul, Yogyakarta. Earthquake intensity on Scale II-III MMI felt in Klaten, Pangandaran, and Karangkates. No damage reported during this earthquake.

March 19th, 2011
Earthquake in Java island occurred at 08:16 am. The epicenter located 142 km southeast of Wonogiri, Central Java at a depth of 10 km with magnitude 5.1 Richter. No damage reported during this earthquake.

March 20th, 2011
The earthquake occurred at 08:20 am. The epicenter is at a depth of 10 km, located 172 km southwest of Sukabumi West Java, with magnitudes 5.3 Richter. Earthquake felt with intensity MMI II – III in Pelabuahan Ratu, Pangandaran and Bogor West Java. No damage reported during this earthquake.

March 23rd, 2011
Earthquake occurred on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 07:07 am. The epicenter is at the depth of 22 km, at 141 km southwest of Banyuwangi East Java, with magnitude 5.1 Richter. Earthquake felt until Denpasar and Nusa Dua Bali with intensity MMI III. No significant damage reported during this earthquake.

April 4th, 2011
The earthquake occurred on Monday, April 4, 2011, at 3:06 am.The epicenter is at a depth of 10 km in middle of the sea, located 293 km southwest of Cilacap, Central Java, with magnitude 7.1 Richter. Earthquakes spreads in Pangandaran and Cilacap, Central Java (MMI IV), Karangkates, Yogyakarta, Purworejo (II MMI), Cisarua (West Java), Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali). The quake was also felt in Bandung city (MMI III-IV). This earthquake did not cause tsunamis and no damage reported.

April 5th, 2011
The earthquake occurred on Saturday, April 5th, 2011, at 11:34 am. The epicenter located in the middle of the sea at a depth of 23 km, located 83 km southeast Ujung Kulon, west of Java with magnitude of 5.4 Richter. No significant damage reported during this earthquake.

May 14th, 2011
The earthquake occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 4:43 am. The epicenter located in the middle of the sea at a depth of 10 km, located 290 km southwest of Cilacap, Central Java, with a magnitude of 5.7 Richter. Because this earthquake far away from island, this earthquake was not felt in Java.
