Some Disambiguation Terms of “Java”

The term “Java” is often used in multiple terms. Several terms which are related to the island of Java Indonesia, but some are not. Below are some names that use the word “Java” in it:

Opera van Java

Opera Van Java (OVJ) is a comedy show on an Indonesian television station. The idea of the show is a modern version of puppet shows. In OVJ, actors and actresses who fill in the event cue to improvise without a script to memorize before, with the guidance of a mastermind.  The “puppet” played by a comedian, like Nunung Srimulat, Azis Stuttering, and Sule. Puppeteer played by Parto Patrio. There is also the traditional music player equipped with musical instruments of Javanese and sinden who sings pop songs.

Java Jazz

Java JazzJakarta International Java Jazz Festival is an annual jazz festival held in March in Jakarta since 2005. In addition to presenting jazz musicians overseas and domestic, this festival is also accompanied by musicians from other musical genres such as R&B, soul, and reggae. Among the leading musicians who attended the event in 2006 was James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Eric Benet, Bubi Chen, and Angie Stone in 2007 while Sergio Mendes, Chaka Khan, Lisa Ono and Jamie Cullum are among the musicians scheduled to appear. More than 67,000 visitors attended the festival for three days in 2006.

Java Musikindo

Java MusikindoJava Musikindo is a famous music event organizer in Indonesia that was founded by Adrie Subono to bring international musicians to hold concerts in Indonesia. Java Musikindo was founded since 1994, with the purpose of showing “live entertainment” to support the growing needs of entertainment in Indonesia, along with advances in the entertainment industry not only in Jakarta, but also includes all other cities in Indonesia. Java Musikindo commit to always support talented Indonesian artists, has been proved by their appearance as the opening bands at concerts held by the Java Musikindo.

Java (Programming Language)

Java ProgrammingJava is a programming language developed by James Gosling and released as a main core of Sun Microsystems’ Java platform. Java applications are usually compiled to bytecode that able run on Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Java is a concurrent, general-purpose, class-based, object-oriented programming that designed to have as few implementation dependencies. It is intended to let the application developers write once and run anywhere. Java is currently one of the most popular programming languages in use, and is widely used from application software to web applications. The language was initially called Oak after an oak tree that stood outside Gosling’s office; it went by the name Green later, and was later renamed Java, from a list of random words. Java ScriptFrom the other name of “Java”, may be this is the most popular one. JavaScript or ECMAScript is a kind of script, primarily used in part of a website to provide dynamic websites or better user interfaces.  JavaScript copies many names and naming conventions from Java Programming Language, but the these two languages are otherwise unrelated. The key design principles within JavaScript are taken from the “Self” and “Scheme” programming languages, not Java.
