Batik fabric is an Indonesian traditional cloth with special motifs and has become a part of java indonesia culture. Batik art is a high-valued craft, and the word “batik“, refers to two things. The spread of batik art into indonesian’s wealth generally, and into Javanese people’s specially happened after the end of XVIII or early XIX century. All batiks that were produced were written batik till early XX century, and stamp batik was known after the World War I or around 1920’s.

There are three types of batik, written batik (batik tulis) is batik which decorate with specific textures and pattern, using hand. The process takes 2-3 months to get 1 piece of batik, this is the most difficult and expensive batik type. Second type is stamp batik that made using stamp (batik cap) which already had pattern in it. The last is painted batik, a batik making which painted straightly to the white fabric with modern technique.

Batik producing areas are Pekalongan, Solo, Yogyakarta, Cirebon, Indramayu, and many others more. For areas which are not affected by Indian cultures, such as Toraja in Sulawesi Island, Papua and Sumatra, batik also exist.
